The Twitter Elections

This past week marked the 1 year mark to the next presidential elections. Exactly one year from now, the greatest country on the planet will have a new leader. This next 365 some odd days will fly by, especially for the potential candidates.

With everything happening so quickly in the election process, Twitter is in full swing. The thousands of different media outlets are keeping everyone up to date on the debates, latest polls, and election campaigns. For people like me who work a good bit of weekday evenings, it is hard to keep up with debates. It is, however, easy to follow along with what is being said on social media. CNN might tweet out a quote that Trump said, or a video clip of Hilary Clinton talking about an important subject. I can now be "in the loop" so to speak, on what is going on during key election events.

This was not possible, 10, 15, 20 years ago. Twitter was not around to be able to follow along when you cannot be glued to the television on debate nights. This has revolutionized how Americans follow along. Way back when, if someone missed a debate, they might catch the highlights the next day during the news broadcast, or driving to work  and hearing it on the radio. Or even reading the newspaper and seeing others interpretations of the debates. This is not the case anymore. We live in a right now society and everything is so fast pace.

Social media has evolved so much over the years and has played a major role in keeping people up to date on current events, and elections as well. 

Donald Trump

Love him or hate him, Donald Trump has caught the eyes of all of America and is somehow still a leading candidate in the 2016 Presidential election. In fact, his popularity has grow this past year. According to the NY Times, 39 percent of Republicans view Trump as the best shot to represent the Republicans next November. This 39 percent is up from 26 percent in August.

Could this really happen? Donald Trump as President of the United States? If you asked this question three years ago, everyone would just laugh it off and keep on with their lives. But as we near November, marking one year until the elections, Trump continues to gain steam and votes among the American people.

The only thing that could be scarier than Trump as president would be Hilary Clinton. I don't have anything against her because she is a woman so don't even assume that's what it is. She just comes across as a scatter-brained, money spending candidate that I for one do not think is the one to pull this country out of debt. Sure, I know it won't happen overnight but we need to be moving in the right direction with this next president.

I know Trump doesn’t exactly have the best track record when it comes to money, having filed for bankruptcies four separate times. I do think this presidential race is going to be better than years past when I believe we could have gotten someone a little more qualified than McCain. But we will see what happens, only time will tell.

Politics, Politics, Politics

Politics plays a huge role in our society. Does everyone like politics? Absolutely not. Politics can be dry and boring and seemingly unfair at times. Politics has a way of making every single person in society either completely agree or completely disagree about a topic. Generally, there is no grey area in politics. Politics can make people get so worked up about little issues that may not have an impact on their day to day lives. Politics can separate families and bring people closer together and have a common bond. I have personally witnessed people becoming the best of friends just because they both agree that Obama sucks. Is that really a common ground that a friendship can be built one? Hmm, learn something new every day.

Anyways, politics can be either a great or awful thing depending on how you look at it. As I stated in the intro discussion, I am not big on politics but I do however recognize that it is important. I want to learn and be more knowledgeable about politics so I can make educated decisions and cast my vote in the greatest country on the planet (fact).  

Political standpoints differ from person to person and no two people have the exact some belief on every single issue. Politics is a wonderful tool used in our society and it has been a staple for this country for as long as it has been established and before. Politics will forever be a part of America whether some people like it or not, so you might as well get used to it and try to learn about it.
